Union tasks

The main job of the union is to improve the financial and professional situation and working conditions of its members, regardless of the members’ form of work.

Union advocacy focuses on collective bargaining agreements, which defend members’ interests at the workplace and on an individual level.

The network of shop stewards is the main element in advocacy work locally. The union trains its members in basic forms of advocacy.

Promoting members’ interests, or advocacy, means influencing legislation in cooperation with the trade union movement and other interests, and including internationally. The union also defends journalists’ copyright entitlements.

The union plays a special role in defending the status of journalism and its ethics. The union promotes freedom of expression. In terms of communications policy, the union’s goal is to safeguard media diversity.

Success in carrying out these tasks requires initiative, that members know their rights and an effective organisational framework.
