The Nordic journalists’ unions are deeply concerned by the announcement that STT may close down its news operations

Statement by the Nordic Journalists' Unions on winding down the Finnish News Agency (STT):

In a time of growing disinformation, foreign influence campaigns and increasing security challenges, strong and independent news agencies are more important than ever. The Nordic journalists’ unions stand with STT and our colleagues in Finland. STT has played a vital role in providing reliable information to citizens, media outlets and society as a whole.

The possible loss of Finland’s national news agency would be a serious blow to media pluralism, access to trustworthy information and democratic resilience. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at STT and the Union of Journalists in Finland, and we urge decision-makers and stakeholders to do everything possible to secure the future of this essential institution.
