Figures from the latest labour market survey on the situation of freelancers shows that average freelance taxable earnings were €24 200, or about €2 016 a month. Overall billing was on average €33 200. Freelancers’ gross invoicing has increased on average by just €200 since 2002.
The biannual TNS Gallup labour market survey charts the incomes, employment terms, and work satisfaction of freelance journalists.
The survey shows that freelance taxable income has increased slightly in the two years since the last survey. On the other hand, overall billing sums have decreased.
“It’s important that there’s an increase in overall billing, because in the end thos is the basis for the level of income, and because costs are on the increase,” says UJF ombudsman Hannu Hallamaa.
The survey had 231 freelance respondents out of the over 1 800 freelance members of the union.
